The Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Project Type: print, project management, words, design

Our first job working with the BBC, we produced a total of five guides for Eurovision 2023 - United by Music - including the official programme.

We printed 22,000 copies of the official programme, with a tactile front cover that includes both a metallic pink and a spot gloss - alongside the media, technical and delegation handbooks. And our final project, still in competition, is the post-event report, which showcases the enormous successes of the Liverpool contest.

The job included a number of complexities, including translating key passages of content into Ukrainian, proofreading Cyrillic scripts, dealing with copy and contacts across Europe and a short production period, but the project was a joy to be a part of.

Whilst it challenged our creativity, flexibility and capacity, the outcomes - and week of live shows in Liverpool - are something we’ll remember forever. Martin Green, the BBC’s managing director for Eurovision, acknowledged the collective effort, saying: “Can I take a moment to congratulate you and your team on the amazing work you have done for us on Eurovision? It really is exceptional, and I know has won you a lot of fans internally here in the BBC and wider. You and I know that this can be a torturous process but you’ve made it clean and clear with extraordinary professionalism.”

He followed: “As we all now know it was so much more than a music show. It supported Ukraine, it brought people together it reminded the world how fabulous Liverpool is and created a much-needed blast of unadulterated joy to the world. Look what you did! A thing of flawless wonder!”
