Folken

Project type: words, websites, design

We’re social butterflies at heart, and know that – as productive and progressive as business meetings and pitches can be – some of the best work and the strongest connections are formed in the pub. That’s why we started Folken.

Literally meaning ‘a group of folk’, Folken was an event series designed to pull together disparate groups from across the city to have conversations and debates about the topics we all have in private; money, funding, gentrification, city living and social enterprise. And so on. Maybe even a bit of friendly football debate here and there.

Our plan was to pulling people together under one roof, to create dialogues to generate ideas and solutions. Then, collaborate to put them into play… and have a pint, of course.

An average of 60 people came to have a drink, an argument and, occasionally, a hug. From the outside looking in it was weird, but it was great.

What wasn’t weird was the type of conversations that were happening – they weren’t unusual. What was unusual about Folken was the breadth of the people who attended, people who usually wouldn’t be in the same part of the city, let alone the same boozer.

Folken continues…
