Liverpool is truly blessed with some world class architecture. It’s hard to watch any big budget Hollywood feature these days without a few shots of Liverpool in there, standing in for London or New York – or wherever Fantastic Beasts was set?
And like any city, there are tons of hidden spaces, forgotten vistas, and well-kept secrets. Hidden Liverpool was created to explore them – as a school project, before it became a book – celebrating and unearthing forgotten gems, whilst reimagining and repurposing them.
We worked with Carolyn Murphy and PlacedEd, who assembled a team of writers, architects, artists, photographers and dreamers to tell the tales we know, and the tales that we don’t. We helped bring the project to life in book form, mentoring the design team, project managing, proofing – you name it.
Hidden Liverpool acted as a discussion piece, reigniting the debate of what to do with so much unoccupied space. As ideas around ‘meanwhile space’ and temporary creative spaces grow, the city’s been busy reimagining some of these old gems, creating truly unique opportunities for the benefit of the whole community.
