Make CIC - Liverpool

Project type: words, campaigns, branding, design

A creative workspace in the Baltic Triangle, 90squared was our first home in the area – and we’ve worked with it ever since. Having started by writing copy for its website, 90squared turned to us when it was looking to rebrand and expand. With a mission to support local creatives and makers under one roof, 90squared became Make Liverpool, taking on a building we’d found for them in North Liverpool, as part of our work with BICo.

Having honed Make’s story and brought it to life in vibrant branding, we also directed and ran Make’s crowdfunding campaign, Make Liverpool Weld. For the crowdfunder film we worked with Make’s residents to effectively convey its message and mission.

We wrote copy for the relaunched website, and helped shape the Maker Manifesto – a print that tells the story of Make, as well as the beliefs and goals of the company.

We’ve since worked with them on a creative business overview for investors, and are embarking on work on Make’s third site, in Birkenhead, as we speak…

Make CIC - HAMILTON

Project type: words, campaigns, branding, design, strategy

Make is our mate – a long-standing companion and client of ours. As we said when talking about Make Liverpool, we’ve been a part of Make’s story since the beginning, before Make was even officially made, in the days it still wore its title, 90squared. Wordscape was a Make resident at the start of its ten-year journey, and has watched in awe as its reach has spread across the LCR.

We last spoke about embarking on work on Make’s third site in Birkenhead, and here we are. Here it is. Make Hamilton Square. The building beside Future Yard and now, its forever home. This hub provides a permanency that is important for the creative community – a rooted space where creatives can grow. So far it has been a year and half programme of work between the two of us, in which we’ve helped to shape their narrative and evolve their identity since 2015 (which we created back then, too), designing banners, leaflets and a vibrant shop frontage for the launch of Make Huyton (equipped with an innovation lab). We were there to support their ‘10 years of Make’ last year, as well – and we made their ten-year film.

Think of Wordscape as a bolt-on marketing and communications team for Make. We’ve spent a decade working together, producing creative collateral and brand materials, interviewing Make residents for the website, supporting its big move and the entire narrative surrounding it. And we’ve loved every second. If we had to pick our favourite aspect of being makers for Make, we’d have to say; watching its evolution, the privilege of seeing it all come together and knowing we played a part in that. Make Hamilton is a source of positive investment in Birkenhead, and we’re Birkenhead over heels for it.
