Pangea

April 2017

Project type: words, films

There are some projects that speak to you on a personal level; there are some that present great opportunities for collaboration. And there are some that make you think, “ooh that looks fun”. And Pangea was one of those projects.

A bespoke sculpture studio and showroom based in Ormskirk, Pangea specialises in life-size metal sculptures of African animals – everything from lions to frogs. Pangea wanted us to craft, direct and design promotional materials to enhance its website and to be included in digital brochures.

So did we pass up the opportunity to film a stable of metal animal sculptures and pretend that they were alive? Not likely. We jumped at the chance, knowing that not only would this be tons of fun, but we could do some creative stuff along the way.

For the film, we went on location to Pangea’s headquarters, and worked with the staff and the ‘animals’ to create a fun, friendly and personal side to the business. While the core of Pangea’s market is private homeowners looking for a statement conversation piece, there’s a whole other market that Pangea wanted to tap into: corporate events.

The campaign emphasised the unusual nature of the products because, let’s face it, life-sized hippo statues aren’t exactly the norm, are they?

Alongside the brochure video we produced a video profiling the showroom. Also light in tone, this video was made with the involvement of the showroom manager Bev Howard, who enthusiastically explained what Pangea is all about, while showcasing the unique animals.

Pangea also asked us to help with some copy tweaks for its website, with us altering some of the language of the story and messages and helping streamline the content. The statues spoke for themselves, but the story about the company’s founding was fascinating and deserved more prominence on the site.
