Turncoat
2017
Project type: websites, branding
Gin is back in vogue, and in a VERY big way. You only have to pop in the nearest supermarket and see the array of craft, artisan and local gins on offer.
Liverpool-based Turncoat came about when local craft beer brew master Terry Langton changed tack, turning his back on the craft beer world and opening a distillery. A self-proclaimed turncoat.
We’d known Terry since working alongside him at the Liverpool Craft Beer Expo back in 2013, so – when it was time for a lapsed beer man to try and tell his story to new audiences – he knew where to come.
Turncoat planned to stand out from all the other gins on the market, giving it scope to travel beyond its Liverpool roots, too. We used the intrigue of the Turncoat name to craft a Cold War feel, telling a story shrouded in secrecy, espionage, double-cross and subterfuge.
The bottles themselves look like communications from the Stasi; redacted text with a mid-century colour palette.
Story and branding in place, we built a website to showcase the product, with a range of photography – giving it another platform from which to tell its story.
