Unity Theatre/ Annual Report

2013

A cultural institution on Merseyside in some shape or form since the 1930s, the Unity Theatre is Liverpool’s fringe theatre, which stages exciting, thought-provoking, and ground-breaking theatre.

As well as its on-stage product, the Unity also engages with a variety of social entrepreneurial schemes, doing extensive community work, youth work, and offering apprenticeships to those who would like a career in the arts, but may not have the means or connections to achieve it.

The Unity asked us to write and produce its 2012/2013 annual report, showcasing its productions, highlighting its educational successes and showing the value it creates for the community. We spoke to the people who’d received opportunities via the Unity, as well as the people behind the scenes and on the stage.

While annual reports can often come across as dry, we presented the Unity’s in a creative way that reflects its unique ethos and approach, rather than as an endless stream of numbers and buzzwords.

The Unity Theatre is a community of storytellers, so it was a nice opportunity for that community to have its story told for a change. And, as the report itself states, there’s nothing better than a good story.
