Urban Splash/ Port Loop Manifesto
2017
Project type: words
Urban Splash is a property developer based in Liverpool. With over 25-years’ experience and numerous awards later, it is one of the true success stories of the city, helping regenerate and reimagine some of the neglected parts of Liverpool.
In 2017, Urban Splash contacted us via our old friends from the City Tribune, Smiling Wolf, detailing its ambitious plan for the historic Port Loop area of Birmingham. The Port Loop is a 43-acre, canal-side site which will eventually consist of 1,150 new homes, retail and leisure spaces, and Urban Splash needed our help in explaining its vision for the area.
We created a small newspaper explaining the colourful past of the site and its importance to Birmingham, researching over 250-years’ worth of history in the process. The paper also acted as a proposal document, outlying Urban Splash’s aims for the site, while reassuring locals that the utmost care would be taken to preserve the area’s feel and integrity.
Urban Splash had a set of principles for Port Loop and wanted us to create some internal editorial pieces to support these principles for the Port Loop vision, again, further reassuring locals and investors that everything was meticulously planned and that nothing was being left to chance.
